Steriods were being used in football just as much as baseball in the 1980s. Steriods make one stronger, faster, and helps the player jump higher. The NFL began to test players for steriod use during he 1987 season. During the 1989 season, NFL started to issue suspensions to players. The majority of players used steriods during the 70s and 80s. More than 16 persent of offensive linemen admitted steriod use, as did 15 persent od defensive lineman positions that require greater size and strength. Dring 1989, NFL toughened its policy by punishing those who test positive for steriods of masking agents.
